The Finnish Society of Anaesthesiologists has been founded in 1952. Nowadays  (5.6.2010)  it has 1059 members: 1030 active physyician  members and  29 supporting members (mostly representatives of  companies operating in the field of anaesthesia medication and  equipment) . Of the active members,  splecialists in anaesthesia are 797, and  233 are specializing for anaesthesia and intensive care.

Almost all of the active members (909 persons)  belong to the  SSAI  ( =The  Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care), and receive its journal Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica.
